Editorial: The Problems In The Farm Bill Go Way Beyond Sugar
By: Washington Post Editorial Board
“Bipartisan reform legislation sponsored by Reps. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) and Danny K. Davis (D-Ill.), which is about to be introduced as an amendment to the farm bill when it reaches the House floor next week, would not repeal this wasteful program. Misinformation Is Keeping Sugar Protectionism Afloat
By: Ross Marchand, Taxpayers Protection Alliance
“Just like the EU, America has a rare opportunity to lower grocery store prices for the vast majority of citizens while boosting sugar industry productivity. As lawmakers put together and finalize the farm bill, members of Congress have a rare opportunity to help the little guy reclaim their earnings from a handful of connected processors. Editorial: Don’t Miss Chance To Reform The U.S. Sugar Program
By Orlando Sentinel Editorial Board
“The U.S. sugar program originated as a temporary policy during the Great Depression. It outlived its usefulness decades ago. Reform of the program should be a slam-dunk priority for any Florida Republican lawmaker who believes in the free market, and any Democrat who opposes crony capitalism.” Read more.
What They Are Saying
Americans for Tax Reform
“The Sugar Program is the antithesis of free-market policy as it provides a plethora of sweetheart deals to a small handful of big sugar producers, including generous taxpayer backed subsidies, price floors, and import quotas.”
Taxpayers Protection Alliance
“Clearly, the only real purpose of “zero-for-zero” is to give the U.S. sugar lobby an excuse for zero reform.”
Center for Individual Freedom
“Existing federal sugar policy constitutes one of the most egregious examples of government waste and regulatory abuse, one that protects large sugar interests at the expense of taxpayers and everyday consumers.”
